The Basilica School
of Saint Paul was founded in 1925 as Saint Paul Catholic School. It is
the oldest of several Catholic schools established in the area by the Sisters of Saint Dominic from Blauvelt, New York. In
2006, Saint Paul Catholic Church was selected by Pope Benedict XVI
as the first Minor Basilica to be named in the United States during his
Papacy. Like the other Catholic Schools in the Diocese, the school enjoys
solid spiritual guidance from its priests and gratefully
receives contributions and donations from parishioners.
Over
the School's eighty-year history,
it has become an educational beacon throughout the Daytona Beach area.
Saint Paul students annually compete and excel in regional, state and national academic competitions including the Volusia County Spelling
Bee, the Tomoka
Regional
Science Fair, the
Florida State
Science and
Engineering Fair,
the
Florida State Social Studies Fair and the
National Geographic Geography Bee. Outstanding
students are selected annually for the Duke University Talent
Identification Program. For the second year in a
row, two Saint Paul students have placed first in the regional science fair. All
public and private schools are invited to participate.
